December 12th is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to a Juan Diego, a poor Aztec Indian in Mexico in 1531. It has become the National Day of prayer in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples and has been celebrated since 2002 on December 12th by the Catholic Church in Canada. Mother Teresa Middle School staff and students will celebrate this event with Campion College and the “Aboriginal, Non-Aboriginal Relations Ministry” of the Archdiocese. A special mass will be hosted by these three groups that will include Aboriginal drum songs and soup and bannock after Mass.
