Anisha Regmi is a proud alumna of Mother Teresa Middle School (MTMS). She recently completed her Bachelor of Arts at Western University in Ontario and her next goal is to get accepted into medical school. “I always felt like I could lean on MTMS like a family. Having the support from the Graduate Support Team that extends beyond middle school has given me the chance to pursue my lifelong dream of attending medical school. Because of MTMS, I know I can turn my dreams into a reality,” said Regmi.

A Special Delivery

Regmi discovered MTMS in the most unexpected way—through a couch delivery. Her family, having immigrated to Canada from a refugee camp, encountered a pivotal moment when a couch appeared at their apartment. The person delivering it was Greg Rieder, a teacher at MTMS.

“We were set up with the Regina Open Door Society when we immigrated to Canada. I guess Mr. Rieder said he would be able to give away a couch he had. By chance we met Mr. Rieder that day and he has been a family friend ever since,” exclaimed Regmi.

A few years later, when she was ready to start Grade 6, her family applied to MTMS. “It was a great fit because of what the school stands for,” said Regmi, emphasizing the school's supports and commitment to low-income families from diverse backgrounds.

A Passion for Healthcare

From a young age, Regmi was motivated to make a positive impact. “I knew I wanted to be in the medical field because of how limited access to healthcare was back home. Moving to Canada showed me the vast differences in medical resources,” she explained. This realization fueled her passion for wanting to give back, particularly to underserved communities who may not have access to the care they need.

Her experiences as a medical receptionist and now as a pharmacy assistant have deepened her understanding and desire to continue working in healthcare. She recently took the Medical College Admission Test and is eagerly awaiting the results, which would set her on a path towards becoming a doctor. Regardless of the outcome, she is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others.

Staying True to Yourself

At the start of the school year, Regmi sent an inspiring video message to the incoming Grade 6 class, highlighting the exciting opportunities that await them on their MTMS journey. She noted that middle school is a time of self-discovery and growth, reminding students that while interests and aspirations may evolve, the most crucial aspect is to remain true to themselves and their roots. “Your life experiences can shape you, but staying grounded in who you are and where you come from is essential. Always know that you are loved and appreciated for who you are,” she shared.
